With over 45 years’ experience in biomedical research and commercial biotechnology, Steve Niemi has held senior management positions in contract drug and device development, biotech start-ups in human gene therapy and food animal genomics, and laboratory animal care and assurance. He is a Diplomate and past president of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and have served on numerous boards and national task forces addressing medical product development and laboratory animal welfare.

More recent activities include:

• Co-founder of the annual Directors Camp for leaders of institutional lab animal care programs

• Co-founder of the biennial Spanish Language Lab Animal Symposium

• Adjunct Professor, Department of Comparative Pathobiology, Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine

• Council member (BOD), Chicago Branch of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Medicine

In addition to launching VirtualVivarium LLC, Steve is also the founder and Principal of Box 4 Ventures LLC, a startup launched to repurpose novel and impactful human medical technologies for the animal care and veterinary sectors.
