Innovative Environmental Enrichment Symposium
The Massachusetts General Hospital, Center for Comparative Medicine hosts an annual Innovative Environmental Enrichment Symposium. The objective of this symposium is to provide a forum at which participants can compare notes on innovative animal enrichment and conditioning programs and how to best determine the effectiveness of those versus current practices.
The symposium will include a variety of highlights:- Developing an enrichment program
- Negative outcomes of Enrichment
- Social housing
- Behavioral conditioning
- Human-animal interaction and socialization
- Enrichment in a GLP environment
- Determining economic costs and benefits of enrichment strategies
- Regulatory considerations in enrichment programs

Who should attend?
The event is formulated for individuals in the field of animal behavior, enrichment and welfare. Intended for those that have passions for providing quality laboratory standards that exceed regulations and meet animal welfare needs.
When is it held?
The symposium is an all day event that is held annually, the Sunday prior to National AALAS
Where is it held?
The event is held in close proximity to National AALAS in order to alleviate costs associated with travel/lodging- encouraging more registrants to attend
Table Dialogue
Attendants to the symposium will be have seating arrangements in groups (based on position and species of interest), led by a facilitator who has extensive experience on a specific topic. Tables will be allowed time to have a discussion reflecting speaker presentations with an aim to shape information into an effective plan of action to take home.
